Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-backports-modules-hardy-generic

I am currently using the Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 3 (Clean install from the live cd.). The version in my grub loader is image 2.6.24-5 generic (all current updates applied)
The only changes to the system I made were installing Google Earth as root, it went to /opt/google-earth.
It didn't work properly, and I found it hard to remove. I removed it rudely by emptying the google-earth directory, then deleting that directory.
There were updates downloaded and applied to the system during the session when I performed the erasure of the google-earth directory. Since then, every login, no matter of session selection, has resulted in a file browser window opening and closing in rapid succession with no control of it.
After 6 to 10 open/close cycles it stops on its own, however sometimes this seems to result in compiz-real crashing (in sync with the end of the event). compiz can be restarted without any issues.
There are no other problems.

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue. Thanks.

affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)

Hi scottdavidflynn,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . Please then run following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` 189112

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
