In my opinion, the issue occurred without me changing or doing anything as the system has kept updating its linux components and other updates. The BIOS update I got this time was issued long time ago back in mid 2019. My touchpad problem just popped up early this month. Somehow something must have been left out during Ubuntu updates. The way you assigned the issue as "invalid" is rather disappointing and irresponsible. In my view, looking at the BIOS version and the ongoing Ubuntu updates, the problem I faced is "valid" otherwise it would have happened in mid 2019.

Please downgrade BIOS and do a kernel bisection to find the where the regression happens.

I got the new BIOS obtained from this link https://www.asus.com/Laptops/X555BP/HelpDesk_BIOS/. The latest BIOS is Version 326 2019/08/07 and the previous one that had touchpad problem was Version 323 2018/08/08.

Also after I faced with the touchpad problem, I also tried Ubuntu 20.04 on USB and the same problem happened with the touchpad. After resolving the touchpad problem in 18.04 I decided to switch to 20.04.

I have no idea how kernel bisection is done.

But first you need to make sure you want to go down the rabbit hole and start from downgrading the BIOS.

Reading the link on kernel bisection, I suppose it's far too technical for a plain user like me.
