Bug Description

There seems to be an issue with the kernel module tps6598x which puts the CPU on a high load: https://forums.intel.com/s/question/0D50P00004fWnUeSAK/nuc10i3-irq-problem

As soon as the module is unloaded, cpu load is back to normal.

According to a post in the link above the issue is the following:
"My guess is that the IRQ resource is not correct for the PD
controller causing you to see irq flood.

The problem is that the ACPI device entry (the node) on this platform
has 4 I2CSerialBus resources and 4 IRQ resources. The idea is that the
single ACPI device entry can represent up to 4 USB PD controllers. The
problem is that there is no way to know which IRQ resource belongs to
which I2CSerialBus resource :-(.

Andy, this is one of those multi-instantiate I2C slave devices with
HID INT3515.

The only solution I can think of is that we start maintaining DMI
quirk table in drivers/platform/x86/i2c-multi-instantiate.c where we
supply the correct i2c to irq resource mapping for every platform
that has this device(s)."

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-focal' to 'verification-done-focal'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-focal' to 'verification-failed-focal'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

I noticed a regression on this issue with Intel NUC 10 i7 and kernel Linux nuc10 5.15.0-47-generic #51-Ubuntu.

modprobe -r tps6598x fixes it but after reboot load goes to 1.00 even when the system is otherwise idle.

There is nothing physically connected to the machine, only power and wifi.

Same here; it seems there was a regression in kernel 5.15.x, and confirmed on a Intel Frost Canyon NUC 10 with Core i7.

The behavior is the same as before: load > 1.0 due to irq/65-i2c-INT3, even when not running anything. Using `modprobe -r tps6598x` fixes it (temporarily).

In my case I'm running Proxmox, which is based on Debian 11 (bullseye), kernel 5.15.53-1-pve, so this is not Ubuntu-specific.
