Installation of 20.04 fails with a kernel bug

Bug Description

Fresh installation of Kubuntu 20.04 on an Intel i3 system. Currently it's running 18.10 without issue. The graphical installer hangs at "configuring apt 9%" Attached is output from dmesg and /proc/cpuinfo

The bug report was submitted from a different machine than the one the installation failed on.

The Ubuntu Release Notes, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FocalFossa/ReleaseNotes#Installer_and_live_session, mention an issue with nouveau crashing during the installation process. You might take a look at those and see if the work around helps you out.
