Yes, that is correct. The PC case, sold as Home theater PC, has an LCD monitor on the front. It provides media info, mail etcetera

On closing down system in linux, it doesn't power down.

I attempted to install the linux drivers from http://venky.ws/projects/imon/ .

Either didn't install correct or doesn't integrate with Ubuntu.

Want to report success for x86 arc.
Hello.
I have similar Home theater PC with soundgraph imon LCD. I don't have problems shutting down the system. When I select "SHUT DOWN" system properly closes all aplications and powers down whole PC. I understand that it might behave differently for AMD64. Thought it might help for troubleshooting.

best regards,
qwertM3.

I don't understand the question?
eventually, following steps on Codeka.com i was able to get imon LCD working. Minimal function: showed time. Yes, i386 was kernel.
Latest Ubuntu updates have since wiped out the changes that allowed some functionality.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.

If the original request concerns the same iMon LCD display that I have, there is no way to power down the display when the PC goes to sleep or even poweroff. This is because my display is tied to an IR receiver that is able to power on the machine via a button on the remote, thus the device is powered even when the PC is switched off.

However, there is a solution that will result in a blank LCD screen, which is as good as it gets. Edit /etc/LCDd.conf and search for the line(s) GoodBye=, and change them to contain only spaces. My display is 2 lines of 16 characters, so my LCDd.conf contains:
GoodBye=" "
GoodBye=" "

Ouch, launchpad ate my whitespace. There should be sixteen spaces between the quotes.

Bengt Nilsson (bengt-nilsson11) wrote :

I think the real problem is that the backlight of iMON LCD is still left on when the system is powered down.
In order to power up with the remote, the standby 5V is used to power the unit, so it is a control issue.
The LCDd can be configured to shut off the backlight at exit but the MoBo power-down sequence is somehow resetting the LCD module so that the light is turned on again when the shutdown is completed.
It is worth to mention that when Windows is used, the backlight remains off after shut-down.
So linux is shutting down differently, in this case in a "bad" way.
