Bug Description

ubuntu 18.04.x+ doesn't detect my monitor connected with HDMI port. I first realized that I have a problem when running the installer. I had to connect an older monitor connected to my DVI-I port in order to run the installer. After installation I tried to make ubuntu understand that I'm trying to use my HDMI port and I used all kinds of commands suggested to me at #ubuntu@freenode but no avail.
I tried ubuntu 16.04 and the problem was not there. The installer was fine and the OS was fine until I upgraded to 18.04 and the problem came back.

I have tried installing different OSs recently and I had no problems with Windows 10 and Linux Mint. I tried Debian and the installer was fine but when OS started, there was the same problem as with ubuntu 18.04.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1852879/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Hi,

I don't know the source package for this problem, I'm thinking there
is none, right? If not, could you please enlighten me so that I can
complete the bug report?

Best,
Siavash

I have to go through a lot of trouble in order to do that.
I would first need to install ubuntu 16.04 and then upgrade to 18.04 and then connect a DVI-I monitor to be able to do this. I cannot install ubuntu 18.04 directly since there is also a bug in linux kernel version 5 that will cause my computer to totally hang when reading from any disk (HDD/SDD/USB) and so the installation hangs at "copying files" when trying to install any Linux with kernel version 5.x+.
Still, if you think you need this log files to solve the issue, I will do this. Can you please confirm whether this is necessary?
