New observation. Without any update, just after the weekend, even without restarts - functionality came back and both trackpad and trackpoint are showing again in xinput listing. Truly strange things, getting the feeling something goes wrong during the kernel initialization.

I'm having the same problem:
On, a Thinkpad T470: Booted 5.0.0-32 (Stock Ubuntu 19.04). After several days, mouse (both touchpad and trackpoint) stopped moving. External USB mouse works. Rebooted into 5.0.0-31, now it works again, so it seems to be an issue with the kernel...
