End of Apport files from previous working version tested today to confirm using
Rythmbox with Pulse ogg audio and both internal and headphone worked simultaneously so
assume the automatic switch introduced the current error.

Rebooting back to Ubuntu 19.04 and 5.0.0-25 kernel with headphone error unresolved.

I am sensing the issue is recognizing the DMI to be able to switch headphone when needed.
So here is the DMIDecode output while running 18.04 kernel 4.18.0-15
I also have it captured while running 19.04 kernel 5.0.0-25 if needed

Do you mean the headphone works well under 4.18.0-15 without quirk=0x21?

And headphone jack status inverted under 5.0.0-25 without quirk=0x21?

Your bug is the same as this one https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1824259

And the fix of this bug is: 406dcbc55a0a20fd155be889a4a0c4b812f7c18e

And I checked the kernel, 4.18.0-15 doesn't have this fix, while 5.0.0-25 has this fix. It looks like your board doesn't need this fix.

Now running 5.0.0-27 and still failing so although I don't need previous mentioned fix I do need some sort of change somewhere.

Is there a place to look and report what is observed ?

I have lost a lot of usefulness and using bluetooth speakers or Windows when in restrictive
environment.

Purpose for this device is replace iPad One for viewing video so without headphone it loses
only value.
