Bug Description

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite Laptop and it has only 3 usb ports, so I bought a conceptronic usb hub with its own power supply to increase the port number.

I've got a Logitech Webcam for Notebooks and a Conceptronic bluetooth dongle.

In the case of the webcam, It works with Skype 2.0 and camorama if I plug it directly on the computer, but camorama and skype don't detect any device if I plug it through the hub.

In the case of the bluetooth dongle, I'm using Blueman to manage a bluetooth headset connection. It works when I plug directly on the computer (I can hear mp3 in the headset using xmms), but doesn't if I use the usb hub. In fact, it seems to work, it connects to headset, but when I push play, Xmms refuses to play.

Of course, other devices work with this usb hub (external hard drive, mouse, keyboard)

I just forgot to says that it's a dual boot computer, and in Windows XP webcam and bluetooth dongle work well with or without usb hub.

I have a similar situation, when a bluetooth dongle is plugged into the hub in my monitor, a headset paired with it cannot be used for audio (no sound). Here is an lsusb with the dongle is plugged in to the hub:

If I plug the dongle into the pc directly and then pair the headset, the sound works as one would expect:

Using a webcam through the hub fails similarly, yet using storage devices works fine.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?

I'm also having this problem on Intrepid 8.10 64bit. My webcam (Creative Live Vista IM VF0260) works correctly when plugged directly to my laptop but does not work if it is plugged into the docking station.

Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue. Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-9.04-desktop . If the issue remains in Jaunty, Please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic <bug #>

If you could also test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine this issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
