Bug Description

The hardy daily-livecd from 20071230 will not boot on my powerpc G4 (titanium 1Ghz 15inch) PowerBook3,5

i get dropped to a busybox terminal

I have tried the workarounds listed at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCKnownIssues
ie booting with
live break=top nosplash
and modprobing ide-core

so this is not a dupe of Bug #126337

I can confirm this bug trying to boot the 20080103 desktop cd on a G3 iMac. Typing exit at the busybox prompt just reboots the system.

The same issue here, on a G4 PowerBook, after I updated from kernel 2.6.22-14-powerpc to 2.6.24-4-powerpc. Highly annoying.

I can confirm this bug on a b/w G3 which was upgraded from Gustsy 7.10 (kernel 2.6.22).

Interestingly, the 2.6.24 kernel can be booted by specifying "Linux root=/dev/hda3" at the yaboot prompt. The system functions OK but without a CDROM.

This lead me to consider that it was the secondary IDE controller that isn't being detected. I confirmed this by downloading the 28-Jan-08 build of the Kubuntu 8.04 install CD which gets as far as configuring the keyboard but then fails to detect the CD - even though it's just booted from it :-)

I agree. I can boot 20080224 on a G3 iMac but X does not start (a different bug).
