Any update on this issue?
I have Asus ROG model and I am experiencing the same issues with the touchpad.
After opening the lid, the touchpad starts lagging for couple of seconds and becomes disabled after that.
I am currently using the 5.3.1 kernel.
I can't use older kernels than 5.0 because in the earlier kernels there was another issue with the touchpad where it was randomly disconnecting.

I haven't tried the proposed patches by thinking that they will be incorporated in the newer kernel releases but nothing so far.
