Bug Description

Hello,

After enw install my scanner Epson not work (Kernel 4.15.0-24) !!

Since you changed the location of the drivers in the kernel, it is no longer possible to run my scanner Epson V300 Photo !!??

I already had the same type of problems with the sound in Display Port that was not working after the transition to the 4.15.0-20 kernel !!!! I presume that all the equipment whose driver is not included in the kernel are affected !!!!

What are you doing ??!! You play sorcerer's apprentice on the back of your users ??!!
.
Thank you for fixing this urgently, I need to use my scanner...

You have changed the driver installation directory which makes all the hardware requesting a proprietary driver incompatible with Ubuntu ...

Even installed drivers can work because Ubuntu looks in the wrong place since the 4.15.0-20 Kernel.

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

  # Not checking for parallel port scanners.

  # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
  # can't be detected by this program.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.18 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
