Formatting usb stick produces invalid partition table / destroys usb stick

Bug Description
While formatting my 16GB usb stick in natillus with right click menu command "Format device" produces a partition table like this:

My USB Stick is only 16gb, while the partition table shows about 1,6 TB!!
This is the seconds time, I observe this! The first formatted usb stick was unusable since then!!
Operating system is Ubuntu 16.4.4:

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.16 kernel[0].
If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel- fixed-upstream' .
