ubuntu 17.10 freezes at anytime

opening internet browser -firefox or file browser, the system freezes. i have seen it last when i opened Krita application. the only option is hard reboot from power button.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
