[drm] GPU HANG: ecode 5:0:0xfdffffff, in Xorg [2005], reason: Hang on rcs0, action: reset
[ 235.623605] [drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx stack, including userspace.
[ 235.623606] [drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI -> DRM/Intel
[ 235.623607] [drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right component if it's not a kernel issue.
[ 235.623607] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so please always attach it.
[ 235.623608] [drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Test Kernel 4.14 rc5 mainline. The bug also exist there

The last good kernel was 4.12, but i'm not sure. For Kernel 4.9, i'm sure the bug didn't exist

Please try drm-intel-nightly [1].

If the nightly one still has issue, "Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI -> DRM/Intel".

I tested with Debian buster and Fedora 27 and the file is playing without any GPU hangs. So the problem might be Ubuntu only. I also tested Ubuntu 18.04 (daily 13/11) and the hangs still occurs. FOr me this isn't a kernel or DRM/Intel Bug
