Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Ok I tried the -proposed kernel for xenial and artful.

Problem is, I'm using zesty. I installed the -proposed kernels and headers, and after a reboot neither my touchpad nor my wifi was working. I admit that I am a linux beginner, so I'm not sure if it is even possible to use those xenial and artful kernels with my zesty Ubuntu.

This issue has *not* been fixed yet on Zesty (17.04) kernel. If the fix is needed for Zesty, an SRU request needs to be submitted to the kernel-team mailing list for the inclusion of the patch and this bug needs to be nominated against it.
