You may need to run the following from a terminal:

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then re-install the package or updates.

If that does not resolve your issue, please mark the bug as "Confirmed"

I ran the suggested script without incident (with an additional autoremove recommended in feedback) and ran upgrade. No errors reported. The gnome interface for updates now shows up-to-date status. As far as I can tell, the problem is resolved for me.

Thanks,
Jan Garmany

Bear in mind that this bug report is only of a symptom of the real bug, which is gnome-software hanging during an update (which it seems to do regularly).

So doing the install and update as explained above fixes the symptom, but not the bug.
