Bug Description

This is bug 1564759 reopended for Yakkety's kernel 4.8
As noted in bug 1564759 it was fixed for ubuntu 16.04. This is confirmed. No crashes occuring there.

In 16.10 however the bug has returned and shows up very often, especially when playing video or using google maps.

Running an Intel® Core™ i5-6267U CPU @ 2.90GHz × 4 with Intel® Iris Graphics 550 (Skylake GT3e)

Log output reveals nothing as to why the system has crashed, but it certainly identical to the previous bug.

Please check 1564759 for further information.

The crash occurs abruptly (sudden reboot or poweroff). Nothing as yet can be found in the logs. However the situation is similar of not equal to Bug 1564759

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.9 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Because of the unworkable state I have replaced it with a 16.04 install (which has itś owns set of issues on this laptop)

I may give it a whirl this weekend.
