This might be related to bug 1643566. There were some Skylake fixes in upstream v4.9.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.9 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Tried with the mainline kernel:

[ 4.124634] [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe B FIFO underrun

on pipe B this time but looks the same - I'll run with the mainline and see if I still get the same screen blanks.

Re reference to bug 1643566 - I've not been using my x260 that much with the built-in screen yet (its new) - I've only seen the issue with the external monitor.

It would also be good to test the HWE kernel posted in comment #2 of bug 1643566

OK I'll try that with the kernel team PPA as well.

I had to drop the mainline kernel - no zfs which blocked me on some other work.

Hey folks ...

I am putting my two cents that I am seeing the same error message with the following setup:

- Lenovo X1 Yoga
- Intel HD520 Graphics
- Onelink+ docking station with two Displayport connected monitors
- Ubuntu 16.04
- Tested with following mainline PPA kernels (4.4.x, 4.6.x, 4.7.x, 4.8.x, 4.9 RC6)

The issue persists in what appears all kernel branches from the mainline builds. Below is the syslog message from my test with 4.7.6 kernel from mainline from this morning:

Running OK so far with the kernel team PPA and the proposed 4.8 kernel updates.

James,

Can you please clarify running OK. For me everything runs okay if I use the main display on the laptop or connect a monitor to the DisplayPort port. However, I get the error messages when I connect the external docking station (Thinkpad Onelink+). As per my post, the error message was still being seen with 4.8.10 (the latest from the 4.8.x branch) from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/.

Thanks ... Ilija

Hi Iilija

I don't use a docking station, but I was seeing occasion blanking of the screen with an external monitor plugged into the display port.

Running with the proposed 4.8 kernel from the kernel team PPA has appeared to resolve the issue - I've not see the original drm kernel error message, and the external monitor has be solid all day.
