Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.9 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I was having the same issue with my Lenovo ideapad 100 (also model 15IBD 80 QQ) running Ubuntu-mate 16.04 LTS. However, when trying to get an image to display in Cheese, I found there was no display until I clicked preferences and changed the photo and video resolution both to 320x240. Then the webcam displayed an image but was very slow. After closing Cheese, the problem with the webcam led always being on has gone away. It's on briefly when booting up, then goes off once I've logged on and the desktop is loaded. I've re-booted several times now and the webcam led is off, unless an application requires it. I don't think I'd updated the kernel at the same time, but I might be wrong.

Can you blacklist module "uvcvideo"? I'd like to know the led is ON before or after uvcvideo loading.

Please also attach dmesg after uvcvideo blacklisting.

i dont know how to do that.
But i am not understanding, i am trying back the kernel. Sometimes it seems the camera does not turn on as before...but now wifi does not work. Starting with kernel 4.10 wifi works

Dear all,

My friend also has a Lenovo Ideapad 100 15IBD. I have just installed Ubuntu with 4.13.0-32 kernel and added a line

blacklist uvcvideo

to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf, as you advised, and rebooted, but it did not help. The white eye of the camera is still on. Is there a more reliable way to disable it? It is so bloody disturbing!

What information can I provide further to help this issue advance?

This seems to be a problem on all 100-15IBD laptops and most people just run guvcview or some kind of app that accesses the camera and the light stops being on but is there any permanent solution because it's annoying to constantly do that after startup
