Bug Description

A USB Stick prepared with 16.04.1 no matter whether "Try Ubuntu" or "Install" is chosen, it freezes on splash-Screen.

With "quiet splash" removed, I get the output on the picture attached.

In the last line it says: "BUG Can't handle kernel"

Can you see if this issue also happens with the latest daily image? It can be downloaded from:

Ok, found the time... fast now.

Same on the daily build from today. Freeze. Two attempts. Took pictures again. Two of each.

No progress here?

This is the Lenovo Yoga3 series affected. Can not install any version higher than 14.04.

There has to be a solution for this freeze...

Tried the 14.04.2 which works correctly. The 14.04.5 does the same bug.

So I guess the Kernel 4.x is broke for Lenovo. And Canonical does not care at all.

What does Priority "high" even mean? No progress since October 2016 and all Lenovo Yoga 3 Notebooks keep Linux free...

A shame.

Can you try latest live image again?

Just downloaded a daily build, made a installable usb stick from it and booted from that.

The result is attached.

I have no clue, why newer kernel versions don't run on Lenovo Yoga 3.

Ok, probably graphics related.

Please try to boot the live usb with kernel parameter 'nomodeset'.

That actually worked. So does that mean, that the Intel® HD Graphics 5300 (Broadwell GT2) is not supported by Ubuntu anymore?

I found a sad solution for me now.

After more than 10 years of ubuntu, I installed Windows 10 on my laptop. Just because it works way better with all that hardware.
Now I can actually use it like it is meant to be used.

Here's what we need to do:

1. Install Ubuntu with 'nomodeset'.
2. Install and try latest mainline kernel.
3. If the issue happens, file an upstream bug.
