Bug Description

1.) Release: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Kernel: Ubuntu 4.4.0-34.53-generic 4.4.15
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz × 4
Graphics: Gallium 0.4 on NVC1
OS type: 64-bit

2.)package-version (gnome-bluetooth): 3.18.2-1ubuntu2

3.) I expected a smooth connection of the computer to my speakers via bluetooth.

4.)... but after a short connection it sometimes gets a timeout. I faced this problem several times now, but not after every boot. I always tried to log-out and log-in again, as well as restarting the computer. Sometimes it helped, but this time it didn't work.

I tried to fix it like in this report:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/804014/stuck-on-a-bluetooth-problem
they suggested it may be a kernel problem, therefore I thought it might be a good idea to report this, as it could be a bug.

Here are some outputs:

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.8 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Sry for delaying my response

I don't remember, if I did an update before, but I know, that I struggled with this problem, since I had installed 16.04 LTS.
I followed the wiki-entry and booted the kernel version "4.8.0-040800rc3-generic" you suggested me to try right now, but still the bluetooth function does not work.

The graphical interface just displays "bluetooth is disabled". The hardware switch is on "on", so it can only be a software problem.

Might it be possible, that there is just a problem with my settings?

I will add the tag "kernel-bug-exists-upstream" and mark this bug as confirmed.

Maxelon, to keep this relevant to upstream, one would want to test the latest mainline kernel (now 4.8-rc5) as it is released.

Could you please advise?

Christopher,

i tested the latest mainline kernel "4.8.0-040800rc5-generic".
Unfortunately, nothing changed; still, the graphical interface displays "bluetooth is disabled".

Can you give me an advice on what to do now?
Do you need more outputs?
And should I deinstall the mainline kernel?

Greetings
