Bug Description

I just started having the problem given over at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/875543?comments=all

I have tried all the methods given on the page but to no avail. I am using Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS. This just happened tonight for the first time in the several years I have been using Ubuntu.

Has any proper way to fix this been found yet? (I have all the updates on my system.)

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.6 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Sure, I can try that. But since all the updates I usually do are through the Update manager, which do I install first - 'headers' or 'image' , or does it matter as long as i don't reboot until they're both installed?

Well, now, before installing, I tried the CD drive and it seems to be working perfectly. Should I just wait and see if it happens again before upgrading?
