This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0]. The first step is to email the appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then a bug may be opened on bugzilla.kernel.org.

Once this bug is reported upstream, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-reported-upstream'.

Hey, joining the bug.
I have an Asus E205SA, which is a great little device.
I've just tested with Kernel 4.6 from Mainline, and it seems to improve things somewhat, as the sensitivity of the touchpad is more manageable, but still only detected as a mouse.
Happy to help test more.
Kernel 4.7rc1 from the Mainline repository could not start the laptop.

It seems this is a hardware driver problem. It has been reported to the upstream kernel in these 2 bugs:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115631
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=120181
It does not look very good. Not much progress...

Hello,
I have in my hands a slightly different Asus E205SA. This one comes with an Elan Touchpad.
On the outside it looks exactly the same.
The other E205SA with the malfunctioning touchpad, has vendor id "0b05", which is:
vendor: 0b05 ("ASUSTek Computer, Inc.")

Could it be that ASUSTek touchpads are actually rebranded Elan?
Is there any way to force loading the Elan driver for this touchpad, and see if it works?
It could be that the driver already exists and just needs to be modified to match the id 0b05:0101?

Please help. I have 35 Asus E205SA in my school, and they perform so much better with Linux!

Same here like Onur. In addition: My model is the Asus TP200S (written on the back of the device and Ubuntu recognized it as TP205SA.

Hello have an update;
I can now use scroll on touch screen and pinch zoom also works but only in chrome not other applications. Probably chrome uses a different approach. It can be a lead. Also there is no advance on touch pad still acts as mouse.
