I've been testing Xenial iso's since the first images came out. Never had this problem.

Would it be possible for you to test the last Xenial kernel. We can perform a kernel bisect if we can find the last good kernel version and the first bad one. The first Xenial kernel can be downloaded from:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/4.4.0-13.29
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/4.4.0-13.29/+build/9335110

With this kernel, you need to install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

This problem occurred with Xenial Daily Live Current.

Daily Live Pending did not have the problem so I'm installed and running O.K.

A similar problem started occurring after an update/dist-upgrade about the same time Jerry reported this on the Forum. My problem continues but is intermittent (every second or third boot will fail). You can out wait the blank screen because 90 seconds after you enter the login PW and the screen blanks the desktop appears. Would be happy to gather what information you need but don't know how to install a prior kernel.

Don't know if this is the same problem this bug was opened for but I am still seeing a long (90 sec) blank screen delay right after entering my PW. I have rebuild the system at the 4/11 daily build level and have seen a decrease in this failure. I do have a xorg log from a failing and a good boot if i would help. The failing boot does show a series of 6 systemd-logind pauses that add up to almost the observed 90 delay.

The 90 sec delay is also an intermittent problem on 16.10.

One of my three test pc systems consistently gets this delay with Xenial. Updates no improvement.

I'll look for the systemd-logind messages next time I boot it.

1) To clarify, did you checksum the ISO before using it?
2) To see if this is already resolved, could you please test the updated ISO from http://releases.ubuntu.com/xenial/ and advise to the results?
3) If reproducible, could you please provide the missing information from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot ?

I'm seeing this 90 sec delay after enter the PW and seeing the desktop appear across multiple ISO builds and releases (16.04 and 16.10). I've seen in the boot journal a message (time 6.16.42) about a gnome-session timeout. The prior entry for gnome-session was at 6.15.13 which is almost the exact 90 sec seen. This problem occurs about every second or third boot. Attaching the journal for this last failure.

Cliff Carson (ccarson1), it will help immensely if you filed a new report with the Ubuntu repository kernel (not mainline/upstream) via a terminal:
