This bug has been resolved for me using linux 2.6.24 from hardy alpha 2 (available at http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/metapackages/linux-image-generic).

Otherwise: workaround from platypuss72 worked with linux 2.6.22 but the system was slower (and there was a big warning during boot process).
