Bug Description

I created a dvd with Ubuntu-14.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso, and attempted to boot an HP Slimline S5414Y computer with it. It wrote 2 lines of text on the display:

 [0.239991] pup 00:05: can't evaluate __CRS: 12298
 [4.2717170] ACPI PCC probe failed

and hung.

I created a dvd with Ubuntu-12.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso and booted the same computer with that. It merely hung the machine with a black screen.

In addition to what is actually wrong, the error messages are singularly unfriendly and unhelpful. A better message would include a URL the user could visit for an explanation and what to do next.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1518145/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. From a terminal window please run:

apport-collect 1518145

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team.

I no longer have the Slimline computer, so I cannot run further tests on it. I bought it for the purpose of installing Ubuntu on it. It failed, so I returned the computer and am getting a different machine. I reported it here for the benefit of the Ubuntu community.

I have no idea how to run apport-collect from a terminal window, considering that I have no Ubuntu installation to run it from. I was trying to install Ubuntu from the .iso image on a CD. It failed to boot with the messages described. There is no further useful information ( which is part of the bug report).
