Bug Description

Xubuntu 16.04(15, Nov daily build) fails to hibernate. Tried both swsusp and uswsusp. It hangs at snapshotting system stage. I can successfully hibernate the same computer in Xubuntu 14.04(kernel 3.13/16/19 and mainline 4.2.3), the only difference is the two OSes are installed on two different hard drives, 14.04 uses ext4 as / and 16.04 uses btrfs as /, if all that matters.

Please let me know if I need to provide more info.

This is weird. I can successfully hibernate and resume sometimes. Sometimes my computer's speaker(speaker on my mobo or case, I don't know) beeps during boot, it might even keep beeping after I log into Xubuntu. If it beeps during boot, I can successfully hibernate and then later resume. It also beeps during the resume process. If it doesn't beep during boot then I can not hibernate.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.3 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

The problem was caused by adding `uvesafb mode_option=1280x1024-32 mtrr=3 scroll=ywrap` to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
I added this line to try fixing high tty resolution after installing nvidia driver but it broke hibernation.

Now I add GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset video=uvesafb:mode_option=1280x1024-32,mtrr=3,scroll=ywrap" to grub cfg file to fix tty resolution. It fixes tty low resolution problem and doesn't break hibernation. The grub resolution is still low though. The grub resolution is fine with the same cfg for my 14.04 installation.
