rgkirch, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

Could you please test for this via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

penalvch, I have installed Ubuntu 16.04. The touchpad does not work yet. What else would you like me to do? Thank you for the help by the way.

I know that's a pretty unhelpful comment I just posted. I spent a lot of time debugging it when I was on 14.04 and I've got some other work to finish first. This is also my first bug report here so I'm unfamiliar with any standard procedure. Would you like me to attach any more information? Install any software? Thanks.

The wifi is working well in 16.04 where it didn't work in 14.04. I also see the sound card in the control panel now. I still can't get any audio but at least something shows up. Nothing showed up in 14.04. The soundcard is a byt-max 98090.

rgkirch, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, Y, and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

I downloaded the following:
linux-headers-4.3.0-040300-generic_4.3.0-040300.201511020949_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.3.0-040300-generic_4.3.0-040300.201511020949_amd64.deb
I installed them with
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.3.0-040300-generic_4.3.0-040300.201511020949_amd64.deb linux-image-4.3.0-040300-generic_4.3.0-040300.201511020949_amd64.deb
and got an error like in error-both.txt.
I tried to install just the header and got an error like in error-header.txt. I tried installing them again and got the same thing. I rebooted and didn't catch the grub menu. Neither the laptops keyboard nor the touchpad worked. I plugged in an external keyboard and that worked. I edited /etc/defaults/grub to show the grub menu. I rebooted and picked the 4.3.0-040300-generic... kernel from the grub menu.
Now I'm in 4.3.0-040300-generic and the keyboard works but not the touchpad is not responsive at all.
$ uname -r
4.3.0-040300-generic
Were the errors misleading and the kernel installed correctly? Did I download the correct kernel? Was this the latest kernel? Do I test any more kernels or just add the tags as per your previous instructions?

Thank you for your help!

rgkirch, to advise, please don't compress/tar files. It makes it harder for folks to analyze.

Despite this, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem following the instructions verbatim at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel to the appropriate venue (Dmitry Torokhov CC linux-input)?

Please provide a direct URL to your newly made report when it becomes available so that it may be tracked.

Thank you for your understanding.

I'm sorry for zipping the files, I didn't see a way to attach multiple files.

Thank you for putting me in contact with Dmitry Torokhov. He made a patch for me and everything is working now. The patch should make its way into the kernel sometime.

Thanks for the help!

I don't have a URL for the patch. He emailed it to me so that I could start using it right away. I don't know when it will be a part of the kernel.

I'm sorry for the hassle; I don't know why I didn't think to attach the patch to the bug report. Thank you for all of your help.

I believe I applied the patch to v4.3-wily after the other patches in that directory.

I have this same problem with 16.04.1, on a similar Samsung Chromebook 3 platform, XE500C13-K02US (4G RAM).

This platform is ideal for Ubuntu, yet, I have the same problem, no native keyboard or mouse interaction. I'm writing this comment on the Samsung Chromebook 3 while using a hardwired USB keyboard/mouse. Also no audio, as others have identified.

I'm happy to test any ISO images with debugging enabled or additional driver support.

This is a very popular "netbook," suitable for Edu, R&D, and personal use. Plenty of power for software development and general Linux use. I hope we can get a current Ubuntu ISO working on the Samsung Chromebook 3, XE500C13-K02US.

Let me know how I can help push this functionality-fix along :)

I've been running Antergos for months now. I only have sound with the LTS
kernel and I can see the card when I run 'aplay -l'. I use pavucontrol to
switch the audio. The keyboard always worked and the mouse works after the
kernel was patched.
