Bug Description

In 14.04 with either nautilus or nemo filemanager, after I suspend my laptop and wake it up again the samba shares aren't always available, sometimes they may be available after an unspecified long time. The samba server is a NAS that is on at all times. Restarting the file manager sometimes works.

WORKAROUND: Restart.

rpgmaker, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

There is correlation to the nemo file manager, so let this be chased up from that direction first.

To clarify, if you switch to the default nautilus file manager, is this problem still reproducible?

It's funny that I never thought of that but with Nautilus it seems that the shares are made available almost inmediately. While at first they aren't there I just hit the 'network' directory again and they have appeared. Maybe it is because I have waken the laptop too quickly after suspending it so I will keep testing it throughout the week and see if this holds.

Ok, spoke to soon, it is reproducible on nautilus. Let me know what else can I do to help detail this bug.

rpgmaker, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, Y, and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

A noob question, is there any chance that installing this kernel manually will break my current installation or will I ever have my old kernel available to boot from it? I ask because I don't really mess much with kernel installations other than official updates, which sometimes leave me with more than one kernel to boot from but I don't know if this will be the case installing the kernel you mentioned.

Arup, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with the Ubuntu repository kernel (not mainline/upstream) via a terminal:
