Daniel Griswold, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/latitude-d830/drivers an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A17). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

I've finally had the opportunity to install a new kernel. I installed 4.2-rc7. Were you looking for 4.2-rc6 specifically or just a newer kernel?

I am not seeing the wlan failure under 4.2-rc7. However, I am now experiencing complete lockups of the system (2-3 seconds in duration) followed by a hardware reset. /var/log/messages doesn't show anything preceding the kernel start on reboot.

I did not see the lockup issue with v4.0-vivid, (but wlan was still broken)
