Bug Description

After a few minutes, the computer is going to sleep mode.

Switching to a console (Ctrl - Alt - F1) shows two error messages — might be typos since I a copying from a picture:

[drm:i9xx_check_fifo_underrun] <ERROR> pipe A underrun
[drm:intel_dp_aux_wait_done] *ERROR* dp aux hw did not signal timeout (has irq 0).

A crash can also be found in /var/log/kern.log:

It seems this crash is reported, but I do not know if it is a red herring:
https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/3/1/6

Booting on kernel 3.16.0-34 does not resolve the issue, nor does using upstart.

I will be bisecting the driver today to see if I can add more information

Interesting:
removing the xserver-xorg-video-intel does not resolve the issue.
I guess this might be linux-related then

Uninstalling the xserver-xorg-video-intel package does not solve the issue.
This would indicate that the culprit is in linux

This issue occurs when using the mainline kernel.

Versions tested:
linux-image-3.19.5-031905-generic_3.19.5-031905.201504211114_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.0.0-040000rc7-generic_4.0.0-040000rc7.201504142105_amd64.deb

I can use my computer when in recovery mode — at which time both the i915 & drm modules are loaded there.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.0 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

OK, I have to apologize on that one: it seems the kernel message was a red herring.

I just compiled the kernel from ubuntu-vivd repository (3.19.0-16-generic) on 14.04.2, and it runs OK.
I’ll try to re-install 15.04 to see if I can troubleshoot this issue further.

Further troubleshooting have linked this issue with systemd-logind reporting an incorrect "LID close" signal and thereafter suspending the computer; the message was indeed a red herring.

I will open a bug report on the specific package, this one is good to close.
