Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.0 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Can you also attach a picture or screen shot of the panic?

v3.13.0-7 was the only kernel version I've had, and had hibernation problems since I installed my OS. I'll try and see if I can get a couple screenshots of the panic by tomorrow night then try resuming from hibernate with the v4.0-rc7 kernel.

After all this time I could not get a screenshot of the kernel panic. A quarter of the time I've been hibernating, my laptop had problems, which was just the black screen I wrote about earlier. I tried the 4.0-vivid kernel and I haven't had problems so far with hibernating, but waking from sleep always gives me a black screen.

I've tried v4.4 and v4.5 and the problem doesn't happen from waking from sleep, but it still happens on waking from hibernation.
