Bug Description

The below logging is shown in dmesg. I'm not sure if it's a kernel/software or a hardware problem.

Sander Jonkers, could you please provide the full computer model as noted on the sticker of the computer itself (not from the Bug Description)?

As well, could you please run a memory test as outlined in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSystemCrash and advise to the results?

Thanks.

Full computer name: HP Stream 13, HP 13-c000nd-N2840 aka HP 13-c000nd. There is no sticker on the computer, but an imprint saying "Model 13-c000nd". Is that enough information?

There is no Memtest86+ in the Grub boot menu and I can't add it, so I ran Memtst86+ (V6.0.0 Free) from a USB stick. It has been running now for 32 minutes, and it's at "Pass: 2 / 4" without errors. I guess the rest of the test will take one or two hours.

Sander Jonkers, as per support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Stream-13-c000-Notebook-PC/7372147/model/7567908 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (F.06). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Ouch. I had looked for a BIOS upgrade, but I had not been able to find it. Thank you for your work.

I just upgraded to F.06 (now: "DMI: Hewlett-Packard HP Stream Notebook PC 13/802A, BIOS F.06 01/06/2015"), and I'll monitor the effect.

Thanks again.

Just wanted to add I am experiencing the exact same error on an HP Stream 11, the exact same address is "corrupted" too. The machine is running Vivid, and has the latest bios update. I noticed in both cases, the memory corruption is detected directly after:

ACPI Error: [PMIN] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20141107/psargs-359)
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.LPCB.EC0_._Q33] (Node ffff8800768a89d8), AE_NOT_FOUND (20141107/psparse-536)

Hardware name: Hewlett-Packard HP Stream Notebook PC 11/8023, BIOS F.08 12/26/2014
3.19.0-18-generic
