Bug Description

Kubuntu 15.04 start without problems to the display manager sddm. If I enter my password the display is blank for a second and then does kubuntu load forever the desktop environment.

Dmesg shows several oopses in the intel driver:

invalid max DP link bw val 0, using 1.62Gps

and

compute-config() on unknown output!

I think this problem occurs since the update to 3.19.0-9.

Kernel 4.0-rc5 tested with the same problem.

Does this issue go away if you boot back into the 3.18 kernel? It can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.18.10-vivid/

I have tested the 3.18 kernel from the repo and the problem remains. The oops messages are also the same. Since kde has worked with 3.18 in the past this seems very odd.

I have tried to reset the settings in kde and see if that helps, but no luck with that.

It could be that the kernel oops are only fatal to kde with the latest kde updates. Or it could be that the kernel oops are completly unrelated to my login problem ...

Do you have an idea what I could do to localize the problem?

Hm very strange I can boot in a live session with the daily iso of kubuntu from today without a problem. However I see also no oops messages in dmesg...

Ok a new user triggers no oops messages and can start without problems.

After I renamed my .config directory I can also login with my old account.

However with this user the oops messages are still triggered when I login.

Something in my (kde5) config must trigger this oops message..

Since the latest kernel update ( 3.19.0-18-generic ) on vivid, regular ubuntu installation updated from trusty, I experience the mentioned issue but with different results.

Unity desktop and Xorg are running without any issues, but I've no sound output via HDMI/DP, which was available with the previous kernel.

Thanks Christopher, I already commented on another bug which seems to be a better match, see bug 1453447 .

Özgür Caner, unfortunately, commenting on someone else's report isn't going to be nearly as helpful (let alone lead to a fix quicker) as filing a new report as previously requested of you.

Benedikt, just to get back to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1435898/comments/21 , was this in the Vivid live environment or Trusty?

Also, is this reproducible in the latest mainline kernel (4.1-rc1)?

Yeah Christopher, I know, but unfortunately I read the bug guidelines after I commented on this and the other bug.

Ok, I'll open a new bug report for my issue and refer to the bug 1453447 and test the latest mainline kernel.

Sorry for the inconvience I'm just quite new to Launchpad.
