Bug Description

Hi I am using Xubuntu 14.04.1 with wifi card Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. From time to time my WiFi connection speed drops, or disconnects (wpa2, 2.4GHz). This happens on kernels higher than 3.0.13-40.

Pavel, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.XY-rcZ

Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.XY-rcZ

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

Pavel, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.13 to 4.0-rc3 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

Christopher, I have tried the last upstream kernel v4.0-rc3-vivid using the iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode and the latest iwlwifi-7260-12.ucode firmware.

Unfortunately the problem of varying connection speed persists with the iwlwifi-7260-12.ucode firmware which I got from the package linux-firmware_1.143. It seems the situation is ok (like in ubuntu kernel 3.13.0-40.69) with older iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode firmware which on the other hand cause the dmesg | grep iw:

[ 1.232620] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)

the "iw dev wlan0 link" shows:

freq: 2462

        TX: 44916002 bytes (356171 packets)

        tx bitrate: 65.0 MBit/s MCS 7

        bss flags: short-slot-time
        dtim period: 1
        beacon int: 100

where the signal with older iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode firmware keeps between (-40dBm ; -51dBm) while with iwlwifi-7260-12.ucode jumps between (-40dBm ; -99 dBm)

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help with this issue.

Thank you.
