This install error came up after a failed upgrade attempt from14.04 to 14.10.
Operating system had to back out of upgrade due to lack of adequate disk space for /dev/sda1, which is my OS partition.
After downgrade and reboot, something happend to system disk because it wouldn't decrypt properly after the password was given at boot time, so had to go to recovery. Recovery seemed to go OK until I rebooted again and this error occured with the message asking me to report the problem. The disk in question is an Intel SSD, 160 GB in size, still relatively new.
