Lorenzo M, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly shown as:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.18-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

Lorenzo M, did this problem not occur in a release prior to Trusty?

As well, could you please provide the missing information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend ?

Lorenzo M, for regression testing purposes could you please a test 12.04.0 (kernel 3.2.x) via http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/12.04.0/ ? A live environment would be fine.

I've tried Ubuntu 12.04.5 and is affected by the bug

penalvch (penalvch) wrote :

Lorenzo M, as 12.04.5 has the same kernel as Trusty ( please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack ) this is why I asked for 12.04.0 (kernel 3.2.x) not 12.04.5.

I _think_ I'm also having the same bug on my iMac 8,1, but I can't check the screenshot since it's asking me to log in. Anyway, I'm attaching a screenshot of what my screen looks like after resume.

There are flashing/crawling green dots all over the screen, also on the console screens and the shutdown screen.

Other than that, from my limited testing, the computer seems to resume OK.

Accidentally I've removed the picture from onedrive so I'll attach here a new one.
By the way your problem is similar to mine but as you can see in the picture my screen is whitish while your is green dotted

Yeah, that doesn't look alike. Do you have this problem also in the console and on the shutdown screen, or just on the desktop?

Robert Bjarum, to eliminate hardware differences, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with the Ubuntu repository kernel (not mainline/upstream) via a terminal:
