Bug Description

My hardware: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/5a51cfb83206b4921024

I am using the most recent version of the development version of Ubuntu Vivid. I suspended my laptop, waited 10 seconds, and attempted to start back up, and all I received was a black screen.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.18 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Tabor Kvasnicka, did this problem not occur in a release prior to Vivid?

As well, could you please provide the missing information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend ?

I'm not sure as I rarely ever used suspend. I used it solely for testing purposes. Further observation has made me see that it appears that rather than being unable to resume, it seems that it is unable to suspend. I have compiled some of the data that you have requested. In the mean time, I will run another test case to rule out the issue just being my lack of patience.

Tabor Kvasnicka, for regression testing purposes, could you please test 12.04.0 (kernel 3.2.x) via http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/12.04.0/ and advise to the results?

Absolutely. And I can confirm that the issue is not due to my lack of patience. It seems that it doesn't completely suspend as the power light doesn't turn off. I will download and test the iso.

It still did not work in 12.04; however, it did fully suspend; it just failed to start back up.
