Bug Description

CID: 201305-13527 Dell Precision M4800

Xorg would crash and restart (you will see the login screen again and again) when the HDMI / DP cable is connected to the system.

Steps:
1. Install 14.04 + update (3.13.0-36), boot to desktop
2. Connect a HDMI / DP cable

Expected result:
* The external monitor should work

Actual result:
* The external monitor screen is black, and the Xorg crashed -> black screen on this laptop -> login screen shows up -> black screen... repeat.

WORKAROUND:
* Install the proprietary nvidia driver

I'm not sure if this should be consider as a blocker.
But hey, we need to certified this I+N system with the proprietary driver, I think it's OK to not to call this a blocker.

Running the setup (GK106GLM [Quadro K2100M] + QHD+) as described in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76319#c8 :

- kernel 3.14rc7
- darktama's git e7cdcda87d2c2158ef34d88c9632bf7541c07c3a
- additional DP1.2 540MHz patch (bug 76319#c1).

When resuming from suspend, the kernel oopses and Xorg crashes ;
A full restart is required.

Oops call trace and Xorg.0.log backtrace with timestamps in attachment.

Could you give the mainline kernel a try, you can grab it at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/.
If bug still exists, please help to report the issue upstream at http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs/.

I can confirm this problem for Ubuntu 14.10 with a radeon card. It might also be the problem in Lubuntu:

Hello,
I found this issue has something to do with the "Enable Switchable Graphics" option in the BIOS
If Enabled, it will make another graphical controller (Intel) available.
And this issue would happen.

If disabled, there will be only one nVidia video there, and this won't happen.

Verified on 201305-13527, 14.04.1 (3.13.0-44)

For bug https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76990
I can't reproduce this on this system (with Switchable Graphics enabled or disabled), therefore I think this is not the case.
