Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.17 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Ok, kernel 3.17 was installed succesfully.
And bug fixed in v3.17 kernel.

But when I try to install the kernel-headers for kernel 3.17 error occurs about bad dependencies.

Sorry, about dependencies it's my inattentiveness. Kernel and headers was installed correctly, and working good.

I'd like to perform a reverse bisect to figure out which commit upstream fixes this regression. It would be very helpful to know the last kernel that had this issue and the first kernel that did not.

Can you test the following kernels and report back? We are looking for the earliest kernel version that doesn't have this bug:

v3.17-rc4: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.17-rc4-utopic

If v3.17rc-4 exhibits the bug then test v3.17-rc6:
v3.17-rc6: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.17-rc6-utopic/

If v3.17-rc4 does not exhibit the bug then test v3.17-rc2:
v3.17-rc2: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.17-rc2-utopic/

You don't have to test every kernel, just up until the first kernel that does not have this bug.

Thanks in advance!

So,
v3.17-rc4 - with the same errors.
v3.17-rc6 - without error "BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 22s!", but wireless card not working, and broken framebufer.

I started a Reverse kernel bisect between v3.17-rc5 final and v3.17-rc6. The kernel bisect will require testing of about 7-10 test kernels.

I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit:
7a5e87867e9fe043c3067a864124caf2b8e7fb99

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1374948

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

Thanks in advance

When i try kernel, which return bug, i see some problems with video-card.
You can see on my syslog (look in attached file on this message, and message #3).

Thanks for testing, I'll build the next test kernel.

In the meantime, can you also test the latest upstream 3.16 kernel to see if the fix already made its way through stable updates:
