Bug Description

We use Ubuntu 12.04 + 14.04 HWE. Sometimes the kernel freezes at startup. There is no kernelpanic. I can not use Systemrequest-Keys for restart. The only key that gives Feedback is the Numlock-Key (LED toggles). When i powercyle the Computer Grub has no countdown for booting the first Kernel. When I press Enter the Kernel starts normaly. I cannot find something in Syslog or somewhere else. I deactivated the bootparameter quiet und added the Parameter "console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200n8". I connected the Computer via a Nullmodemcable with another computer and logged the bootprocess with minicom. The Logs are attached. I can not reproduce this Bug in Kernel linux-image-3.11.0-13-generic

Hempt IT-Support, could you please execute the following at a terminal (not manually attach an apport file):

Christopher M. Penalver, I can not run apport-collect because it does not use our http(s)-proxy via the environment-variables HTTP_PROXY and HTTPS_PROXY. I got
ERROR: connecting to Launchpad failed: [Errno 110] Connection timed out

I think I'm experiencing the same problem. Today, on my HP Proliant server running Ubuntu 12.04 server with 14.04 HWE it hang on boot, but I could reboot it with sys rq keys. On next boot, there was no automatic countown on boot selection. However, computer successfully booted and works since then. I have never expirenced problems like this on older kernels.

On related note, my home server running Ubuntu 14.04 with 3.13 also hang when today booted. After restart (with sysreg keys), booted ok.

I'm attaching syslog from Ubuntu 12.04 server with 14.04 HWE.

I updated the Kernel to 3.13.0-34.60~precise1 and got the same freezes at startup. I found the kernel parameters "debug ignore_loglevel print_fatal_signals=1 LOGLEVEL=8 earlyprintk=vga, keep sched_debug" in Archlinux Wiki [1]. When i boot with these Parameters and "console=tty console=ttyS0,115200n8" for logging I get

[ 8.853449] [drm] Memory usable by graphics device = 2048M
[ 8.853452] checking generic (e0000000 500000) vs hw (e0000000 10000000)
[ 8.853453] fb: conflicting fb hw usage inteldrmfb vs VESA VGA - removing generic driver
[ 9.220645] Console: switching to colour dummy device 80x25

I googled the Error and found [2]. Disabling the framebuffer with the parameter "video=vesafb:off" does not help. I get the same Error at normal startups, too.
