Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.17 kernel[0].

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have tested this with the latest kernel.

flex2:~$ uname -a
Linux flex2 3.17.0-031700rc1-generic #201408161335 SMP Sat Aug 16 17:36:29 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I've also noticed this situation. But I think it's not really a bug but a confused change made in power settings.

@sayantan13 can you check if you can also see the same results:

Steps to verify:

1. check "Dim screen to save power"

2. in "Turn screen off when inactive for", select "2 minutes"

And then wait for the system goes to inactive, you should see result with follow progress:

normal -> system goes inactive (0s) -> screen dim at 30% backlight (1:30s) -> screen starting dimming again (1:50s) until black/off.

If you cannot see it dimming but it still goes to black screen, not could possibility your backlight does not work at first place.
