Bug Description

With my Clevo w310cz (Sentelic touchpad) the cursor jumps and select anywhere on the screen in Ubuntu 14.04.

WORKAROUND: Disable two finger scrolling in touchpad-configuration GUI.
Add to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT (/etc/default/grub):
i8042.nomux=1 i8042.reset=1

and execute via a terminal:
synclient PalmMinZ=1
synclient PalmMinWidth=1
synclient MaxSpeed=1

exzemat, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.16-rc7

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

Still erratic jump/selection.

to complet bug's description : I also found that if I restart the computer when the cursor is crazy, the cursor is blocked in the middle of the screen (only the right click works).
I need to reboot several times to have the possibility to move the cursor.

I'm afraid that the problems is also in the hardware or firmware level of the touchpad, because if I restart on Windows (when the cursor is blocked on ubuntu), the cursor is also blocked in the middle of the screen on Windows.
However, if I only use Windows (never boot on Ubuntu), I never have a problem with cursor...

In bios setting, the following details:
Bios version 2.15.1227 copyright 2012 american Megatrends
MB series : w310cz
Bios version : 1.02.04
KBC/EC Firmware revision : 1.02.02

I see on this repo
http://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror/W310CZ/
that this bios version and EC revision is dated on 05/20/2013.

Maybe it would be a good idea to update to 11/11/2013 versions:
i.e.:
Bios version : 1.03.02
KBC/EC Firmware revision : 1.03.01
(which normally integrates previous update)
Because previous update (09/12/2013) update Intel micro code.

Sandy/Ivy bridge support natively usb2, and I think that sentelic touchpad is connected on usb...
so, maybe update intel microcode could help...

what do you think about thi bios/EC update ?

exzemat, I personally have a rule where I don't install BIOS updates unless it's downloaded directly from the vendor website.

Despite this, could you please test the latest mainline kernel via http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.17-rc1-utopic/ and advise to the results?

Dear Christopher,
no, I disable all mine workarounds :
- don't use synclient
- remove i8042.nomux=1 i8042.reset=1 from grub

despite, I have not test with two finger scrolling active, for the moment.
I will active this multitouch capacity, and test it.

For information, on your advice, I have not update bios.

So, I tested with two fingers scrolling active (multitouch capacity), WHITOUT workaround, this kernels:
-v3.17-rc1-utopic (2 weeks testing)
-v3.17-rc7-utopic (just this wend testing)

I don't suffer erratic jump/selection, it's seems to be a good news !

Indeed, I note that "disable while typing" cheking, in mouse&touchpad GUI configuration (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/raring-mouse-settings.jpg) no work.
I need to use syndaemon to solve it.
I specify this just for information, I don't know - but maybe - if this problem is linked with palm detect

exzemat, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect the kernel in order to identify the fix commit. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F ?

- 3.16.0-031600.201408031935 : still erratic jump/selection
- v3.17-rc1-utopic : no more erratic jump/selection

so, to be clear, you want that i test :
- v3.16.1-utopic
- v3.16.2-utopic
- v3.16.3-utopic
- v3.16.4-utopic

Could you confirm please ?

exzemat, you would want to start testing with v3.16.3 first, as it's the midpoint between v3.16-utopic and v3.17-rc1.
