Hi,

So, the reinstall don't solve the problem : 5 hours running and once again disconnect.

The NetworkManager ask me for the SSID password ...
I have to switch off/on the wifi to be able to reconnect.

Can someone help me please ?

Has NetworkManager a problem ?

There's a lot of information here, but it's all missing some of the details needed to make any sense of it. Please do the following:

1. Make sure your system is fully up to date. Reboot.
2. Wait for your wireless issues to occur.
3. If you have access to a wired connection, connect your machine to the network using this connection. Otherwise see if you can get your wireless working again -- disconnect/reconnect using network manager, and if that doesn't work try 'modprobe -r iwlwifi; modprobe iwlwifi' in a terminal.
4. Once you have a working network connection, run 'apport-collect 1349108' in a terminal.

Once I have that information I can suggest further things for you to try. Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm sorry Seth but before reading your message, I proceeded to a new fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 without installing updates during installation. After installation, I configured 'synaptic' to receive only updates from 'trusty-security' to avoid updating 'linux-firmware' from 1.127.4 to 1.127.5 or any other recent packages.
-> My computer was online all the night and no wireless disconnection occurs.

Today, once again, I proceeded to a new fresh install. I installed Ubuntu by checking to install updates during installation.
After installation, I installed all available updates for normal use. I didn't install additionnal packages.
-> After 2 hours, any disconnection appears. The wireless keeps ready after sleep/wake.

Now, as you ask me in your message, I'm waiting for a wireless disconnection to send you information with 'apport-collect'

Whatever happens or not, I come back to you as soon as possible.

Regards.

From what I see in the logs the problem does look similar to bug #1293569, in that the reason given for the disconnection is inactivity and that reverting back to the -7 ucode seems to correct the issue, except that the fix there doesn't seem to work for you. I think we're going to need to collect some more data.

Please download http://people.canonical.com/~sforshee/wifi-debug, then open a terminal and make that file executable ("chmod u+x wifi-debug" in the directory where you downloaded the file). Run "sudo apt-get install iw trace-cmd tcpdump" to install some needed tools, then run "./wifi-debug -t -p". This will start collecting data. Leave it running until you experience wireless problems, then press Enter to stop collecting data (this collects a lot of data, so if this problem takes a long time to happen you may want to periodically stop and restart wifi-debug as long as the connection is stable as well).

Once the script finishes you should have a file named wifi-debug-files.tar.gz. Please give me this file either via email or by uploading it to some kind of online storage and providing me a link. I don't suggest attaching it to this bug report.

Please note that this script will log your network activity and the activity of other wireless clients on the same channel (though traffic from other clients will be encrypted if connected to a protected network), so anything you do on the wireless connection while it's running will be captured. I won't be looking at the actual data sent over the network, and anything sent over a secure SSL connection will still be encrypted, but you may want to restrict your activity while the script is running to avoid having any personal or confidential information captured. If you aren't comfortable with having network activity logged you can omit the -p option to wifi-debug. In that case only mildly private information such as network addresses will be collected, but that will also limit what I'm able to do to help you.

Thanks!

Hi Seth,

Since last week, I try to solve this issue.

After reading the description to bug #1293569, I renamed the iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode to iwlwifi-7260-8.backup in /lib/firmware.

The wireless works fine since last saturday (2014/08/02) : no issue occurs at startup, at wake up or after several hours in use.

So, it's OK for me. This issue is resolved.

Thanks for the previous information.

Regards.

I'd call that more of a workaround than a solution. It seems apparent that there is some firmware aspect to the problems, but from others with similar problems it sounds like it's at least less prevalent with 3.15 and 3.16 kernels.

I've identified a couple of fixes that could be responsible for the improved behavior, and I've made a test build for trusty with these fixes. I'd appreciate it if you could give it a try (with the -8 firmware) and let me know how it works for you. I've posted the build at:

Thanks!

Seth: Could you build your test kernel again from the current Trusty kernel (3.13.0-35.62, if I'm not mistaken)?
I would love to (have someone) test this, but I wouldn't want to go back to -32.57

Sven: These changes are already present in the 3.13.0-36.63 kernel which was released last week, so you should just be able to update your system and test with that kernel.

Hi Seth, hi Sven,

According to your demand, I upgraded my system.

Here are the current versions in use for kernel and iwlwifi :

I rename iwlwifi-7260-8.backup to iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode in /lib/firmware to rollback my previous fix and reboot my computer.

... running test ...

Hello fellows!
I have almost the same problem: after updating oxideqt and its libraries I lost my NetworkManager. I had to update oxideqt with Synaptic because both Ubuntu Software Updater and apt-get refused to do it. After update everything was continuing without any trouble. Untill I have rebooted my PC. After rebooting NM-applet starts in background: without any sign in tray and without any connection to the net. Same scene on both my computers: PC and notebook on the same day!
System: Ubuntu 14.04.3 (PC - updated from 14.04.2, NB - fresh install).
No any connection: nor PC with Ethernet (to a router) or NB with Wi-Fi (to the same router).
Even now to find solution I had to boot under LiveCD!
