We saw the same thing with Debian with the recent openal update. The cause is that roaraudio support was added (back) to openal , and roaraudio is not compatible with multiarch (so wine is not installable). https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=755846

affects: linux (Ubuntu) → roaraudio (Ubuntu)

Added openal in case the devs want to pursue dropping roaraudio support from openal as the workaround.

I dropped the roaraudio support in OpenAL and put a "fixed" version of openal in my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~dtl131/+archive/ubuntu/mediahacks/+packages

If you have no idea what roaraudio is and just want to install wine again, this should help (it worked on my Utopic VM)

Obviously, if you need the roaraudio backend for some reason, you don't want to use my version.

Thanks for the workaround. As I haven't a clue what roaraudio is, I'll probably never need it. I have wine back again in Utopic!

  * Removing RoarAudio (libsndio) dependency until bug:755846 is fixed.
  * The above also happens to fix the multi-arch problem. (Closes: 756066)

roaraudio is still not multiarch compatible, but I have moved that to a separate bug since Debian OpenAL has made the decision to move forward without roar: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/roaraudio/+bug/1349663
