I confirm the bug on Asus Sonicmaster.
Maybe adding this line to grub will allow to manage it via brightness control panel

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="..... acpi_backlight=vendor"

You have all the needed info in bugzilla. The problem was the acpi driver detecting less than 8 inputs, and the asignee made a patch (which I pasted here) that fixed the problem. He said they needed to find a better solution to the issue, because the patch wasn't the best solution. I won't give more information.

Please include patch in kernel. I don't know if its fixed in mainline, but there is a patch for the bug that fix the problem. I 'm having this problem since 2013 and there is a patch, why about using it?

Jaime Pérez, if you want a fix, you would want to do as previously requested in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1327774/comments/16 . Just because you posted a patch doesn't mean the information isn't needed.

Jaime Pérez, thanks for that. Due to how the Ubuntu Kernel Team tends to pull only from Linus's stable tree (there are exceptions to this), the attached patch wouldn't fit the criteria for inclusion, especially given a WORKAROUND. However, given Dmitry Tunin et. al. are aware of the issue, and have advised they are still working on it, I'll mark this Triaged for now.
