2014-05-30 04:00:15 Brad Figg linux (Ubuntu): status New Confirmed
2014-05-30 07:13:42 penalvch description My MacBookPro 8,1 (Early 2011, 13") will not boot using any trusty kernel linux-image-3.13.0-20-generic or later, unless the noefi kernel param is set. When booting linux-image-3.13.0-20-generic or later without the noefi param, I get a grey rectangle displayed, centred, filling most of the screen, and the system hangs. If booting into rescue mode without noefi (i.e. without quiet, splash, vt.redirect, etc.), I see the following (roughly, from memory...) > Loading vmlinuz-3.13.0-27-generic... > Loading initrd.img-3.13.0-27-generic... Then the system hangs. In either case, on reboot I'm dropped automatically into the GRUB menu. To boot in EFI mode, I keep linux-image-3.13.0-19-generic around - which works fine. Booting a latter kernel works if I specify noefi, however gfx and disk performance suffers, and features such as the monitor brightness keys fail to work altogether.
