Bug Description

I am getting the following error when I try to install Ubuntu desktop 14.04 on my HP Pavilion a320n. It says "Kernel Panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exitcode 0x00000009. It also happens when I try any of the other installation screen options. Do to me not being able to access terminal i could not get all of the console information. It is running on 512 MB of ram, an Athlon XP 2800+ 32 bit processor, and a Western Digital WD1600 hard drive. If anyone knows what this is and how I can fix it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you ever had prior Ubuntu releases installed on this machine? If not, can you see if this issue also happens on earlier releases, such as Precise:

meun5, testing http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.04/ would be the equivalent to testing Saucy kernel, which is too recent of a kernel test. Hence, for regression testing purposes, could you please test http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/12.04.0/ and advise to the results?

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request.

With the recent release of this Ubuntu release, would like to confirm if this bug is still present. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window:

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

I have intalled a fresh copy of Ubuntu Studio 14.04.
Upgrade kernel without a problem until:
 - linux-image-3.13.0-44-lowlatency
 - linux-image-3.13.0-45-lowlatency

That I got couple of times this "kernel panic" crash. Normally when I don't use the computer but with Firefox opened.

I use now kernel 3.13.0.-43-lowlatency with no problem.

Joan CiberSheep, thank you for your comment. So your issue may be dealt with as soon as possible, and so your hardware may be tracked by having necessary debugging information automatically attached, could you please file a new report with Ubuntu by executing the following in a terminal while booted into the default Ubuntu repository kernel via:
ubuntu-bug linux

For more on why this is most helpful, please read the official Ubuntu documentation from the respective Ubuntu developer groups, and triage teams:
