Bug Description

Description of the problem:
The current HP Dynamic Smart Array B110i/B120i/B320i controller driver for Ubuntu 12.04 does not work when configured as a RAID device with 2 or more disks. The Ubuntu 12.04 certification was completed in SATA mode only for the HP DL320e Gen8 servers. [1]

It is known that the driver is closed source and is not included in Ubuntu. [1] [2] [3].

As far as we can see, these drivers are supported on SUSE and Redhat.

We cannot perform remote installations using RAID throught the B120i card. We would prefer not to use the Linux RAID as a workaround since it requires much more user intervention and also the fact that we are not making use of the DL320s features.

Ubuntu release, software version, Release Number and Architecture of the selected components.
Ubuntu 12.04.3 and later releases.

How reproducible is the problem?
Always when RAID is configured at the B120i card level.

Steps to Reproduce:
Configure RAID through the B120i card and try to install Ubuntu 12.04 or any other later release.

Known Workaround:
Disable RAID support in the card and install Linux Soft RAID

Louis,
May I know which precise kernel version you are trying to install? As far
as trusty is concerned MAAS has support of third party drivers and once
your system is connected through trusty MAAS you should able to deploy
trusty in dynamic smart array raid mode and have used of hpvsa driver
available in hp-iss PPA.
